With extended summers this time, dengue has started to spread quite early and is very much expected to continue until the end of this month. Though the reported cases this year are less as compared to previous years, but as the temperature has not dipped down, it will continue until October end. However government claims to have adequate treatment in hospitals, it’s better for people to take some precautionary steps to prevent these diseases to originate and further spread. Instead of dependence upon government & authorities to act, there are several measures which people can initiate in order to stop mosquito menace. Here are some handy tips to prevent dengue.

  1. Remember to not fill the flower pots with excess water as stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If you notice accumulated water around your house, spray pesticides to stop breeding of mosquitoes or fill the pit with soil.
  2. Apply mosquito repellant sprays on areas exposed to mosquitoes during the day and night. Keep most part of the body covered. Burn dried ‘Neem’ leaves in home to repel the mosquitoes. Smoulder the smoke in the corners and behind curtains where mosquito hide.
  3. Keep the doors and windows closed so that the mosquitoes do not enter home. If you want to keep the doors and windows open to have ventilation in the room, use netted door to keep mosquitoes out.
  4. Some studies even say that planting a tulsi plant near your window can keep mosquitoes away.
  5. If someone in the family is infected with mosquito bite disease, get immediate medical aid. Get all prescribed test done and go through medication. There are some natural herbs like papaya leaves, Giloy leaves etc., which help infected person to recover fast. These remedies can be used after medical consultation.
