The Bird Mystery is a unique phenomenon that occurs at Jatinga between September and November each year. During these late monsoon months, several migratory and local birds commit mass suicide at the village. Just after sunset, between 7 and 10 pm, hundreds of birds descend from the sky, plummeting to their deaths by crashing into buildings and trees. Since birds aren’t known to be suicidal, the phenomenon has baffled villagers, visitors and scientists alike. For many years, locals believed that evil spirits living in the skies were responsible for bringing down the birds.

As per stories, this place was cursed by a black magician who one sided loved princess Ratnavati. Ratnavati was the princess of Bhangarh and was famed for her stately beauty all over her own kingdom and the neighboring states. By the time the princess turned 18 years old, she started getting matrimonial offers from different states. There was a tantric (black magician) called Singhia, who was completely fascinated and obsessed by her but knew that his match was impossible with the princess.

But Singhia under the spell of glorious beauty of The Princess decided to decoy the princess with his magical powers. One day Singhia saw the princess’s maid in the market. So he thought, he’ll marry the princess by using black magic on the oil that the maid was purchasing so that upon touching it, the princess would surrender herself to magician. However, the princess saw the Sanghia Tantrik trick that he was enchanting the oil. So the princess poured the oil on to the ground. The oil on ground turned into a rock and rolled towards the magician and crushed Singhia. Before dying, the magician cursed the Bhangarh city to death and said there will be no more rebirths. After this incident, the curse showed its results in a battle between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh, where Ratnavati was assassinated. No one survived in Bhangarh and due to impact of Shinghia curse, evil spirits rule the place and locals tell that one who has gone to fort after sunset has never returned.

om_banna

Om Banna (Bullet Baba) temple – This temple is not devoted to any God or Goddess but a man, Om Singh Rathore. Om lost his life on 2nd December, 1988 when he was travelling on his motorcycle on a road near Chotia village in Pali district of Rajasthan. He lost control on the vehicle and his bike struck in a tree and Om dies instantly. His bike fell down in the ditch near the accident site. Police took the motorcycle to the near police station. Next day the motorcycle was missing from the police station and was found at the accident site. Police brought the motorcycle back to the police station and one again it was found at the accident time. Once again police brought the motorcycle back to the police station and fuel tank was emptied and motorcycle tyre was tied with a chain. Surprisingly this too thwarted the motorcycle to disappear and found at the accident site.

Police had now understood something unnatural in these repeated occurrences and placed the motorcycle at the accident site and constructed a temple. It is said that Om’s spirit helps stranded people on the road. People heading towards Pali in Rajasthan halt at ‘Bullet Baba’ temple to offer their obeisance. The story looks unbelievable but founding Om’s motorcycle despite empty fuel tank and tyres chained with iron chain make people to believe in this supernatural event.

The tree is mentioned in many travel books of the nineteenth century as a very spectacular element. It survived two great cyclones in 1884 and 1887, when some of its main branches were broken. With its large number of aerial roots, The Great Banyan looks more like a forest than an individual tree. The tree now lives without its main trunk, which decayed and was removed in 1925. A monument has been erected to the dead trunk, but is hardly accessible to visitors, who only have access to the perimetre of the tree. The area occupied by the tree is about 14,500 square metres (about 1.5 hectares or 4 acres).
