Diesel or petrol – How shall I finalize buying a car?

diesel

Planning to buy a new car? Surely you will be going through lots of dilemmas like selection of brand, model but above of all selection of variant of the vehicle – Petrol or Diesel. In present automobile market where flood of models is there for consumer, final selection requires some analysis. Some people blindly believe that diesel vehicle gives good mileage and diesel’s price is less than petrol, so more savings can be done by choosing diesel vehicle. But reality is not such, no doubt diesel vehicle gives good mileage and diesel price is less than petrol but this is not sufficient reason for a consumer choose diesel vehicle without knowing his budget and vehicle usage. Let us try to know which variant of vehicle is suitable for the categories of different consumers.

First point is budget and cost, set a budget to buy a vehicle or for down payment and installments. Diesel vehicle always costs higher than that of petrol variant irrespective of manufacturer and variance is generally 1 – 3 lac. This means if vehicle is being financed, higher down payment and installment will be payable. So, set a budget.

Next point is usage of the vehicle in daily and monthly basis. The user who drives a vehicle more than fifty kilometers in a day and monthly average reaches exceeds 1500 kilometers should choose diesel variant because diesel vehicle’s savings are linked to usage of vehicle. No doubt diesel vehicle gives better mileage and diesel costs less than petrol but here we are considering price gap as well, which is 40% more for diesel vehicle. Thus more usage of diesel vehicle will recover the extra cost faster. For users having less usage of 20 – 30 kilometers a day and monthly average up to 1000 kilometers should opt for petrol variant.

Another point is occupation of the user. Working class, which include PSU, corporate, MNC, institution people prefer petrol version as their usage is restricted to commuting to work place and weekend family’s outing plan. So there is no commercial use of vehicle. Whereas the business class, which include real estate, marketing and sales, manufacturers, industrialists, travel extensively for client’s meeting and other business purposes. Such users have high usage of vehicle and this easily recover the price of the vehicle in 2-3 years.

So there is some prospective approach required to be implemented before making final selection of vehicle. Conclude your need, usage and budget then make the final decision. Hope you will enjoy your driving for a long period.
