An Innovation – Common Windows Platform.

A big number of people use Windows operating system every day and we see some periodic changes in functionality, appearance and other changes in the Windows. These changes are none but the addition, modification & removal of some features. Microsoft is known for its innovative and user friendly products with which lives of people is put to ease. Let’s grab some news about what’s cooking up in Microsoft.

It was February 4th of this year (2014) when Satya Nadella was appointed as a CEO of Microsoft by succeeding Steve Ballmer. Before becoming CEO of Microsoft, he was Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s Computing Platforms, Developer Tools and Cloud Computing Services.

In his previous interviews Nadella said that he always wanted to build things. Keeping this thing in his mind he confirmed that Microsoft is going to merge all of its major versions of Windows into one huge Windows platform whose concept is quiet similar to .NET Framework. During the developers conference which was held in April this year the company announced developers tool for Universal Windows App. This app is also known as the Holy Grail of app development.

This tool is handy for developers to write code that would be compatible with all the major versions of XBOX, Windows and Windows phone. Mr. Nadella also said that company will streamline the next version of Windows from three operating systems into one single converged operating system for screens of all sizes. This concept also reduced multiple team work on different versions of Windows. Now there will be one team with common architecture who will create Universal Windows App.

The approach is different from Windows previous techniques and also from Apple’s style. Under Steve Ballmer, Microsoft took an approach to provide company a multiple operating system which was similar to Apple’s style. Apple categorizes its products in two app eco systems- iOS and Mac OS. But Mr. Ballmer failed in this approach and multiple operating systems couldn’t always run each other’s app.

The common Windows platform will have alike features of different Windows versions. This will be hugely important for developers. We will see the consolidated features in next version of Windows that is Windows 9 which will be launched in 2015.
