Changing game of “Indian Sports.”

Sports in India have been dominated by cricket for years as people have been taking interest in cricket for a long time. There used to be a holiday like situation while India participating in an important cricket match. Though hockey is our national game still people had been gripped in cricket craze, but now situation seems to be changed with Indian emergence in various sports like Shooting, Boxing, Wrestling, Kabaddi, Hockey, badminton, tennis etc. Abhinav Bindra, Shshil Kumar, Yogeshvar Datt, Saina Nehwal, Krishna Poonia, Vijendar Kumar, Sania Mirza, Marry Kom are some Indian sports stars who have been acclaimed worldwide by clinching major world titles.

I am talking about early nineties to mid two thousands where only cricket players had a recognition as sports men. Reason behind this was probably government’s negligence in promoting and patronizing other sports. India always struggled to secure any recognized position in all major events like world championships, Olympics, Asian games etc. This was a reason behind people getting inclined towards cricket. This sequence was broken by Leander Paes by winning bronze medal in Atlanta Olympics and people got attention towards another sports except cricket. After this various sports stars emerged and people and government appreciated & acknowledged their performance.

In cricket era, all brands were endorsed to cricket players but now we can see Saina Nehwal, Vijender Singh, Abhinav Bindra, Vishavnathan Anand, Sushil Kumar as a brand ambassador of various companies and campaigns. In last many events, Indian players have shown Indian presence in world sports by winning or getting a reputed position. In recent Asian Games, Marry Kom, Yogeshvar Datt, Indian hockey team, Athletic team and Kabaddi won gold medals for the country and Union Government as well as various state governments announced hefty prizes for these shining stars. Recently Indian Hockey League, Indian Pro Kabaddi Championship, World Kabaddi Championship, Indian football league have got great public attention and support with various brands supports these events. This kind of government and public support motivates our young generation to explore a great career and fame in various sports.

So, let all of us support our sports stars who have made country’s fame and reputation in world of sports and lets all motivate our generation to participate in sports.
