Highly qualified, still struggling to get meaningful employment. Reason no ‘Job Skills’?

skills gap

In the present scenario of education where we found an engineering or management college at stone throwing distance, it’s really a matter of concern whether education is leading young job aspirants towards a meaningful employment. I have been interacting with young degree holders, most of them considered as highly qualified, for past many years and have witnessed a incessant skills gap. This is really big issue of anxiety as we have world class institutions & universities all over the country but still our youth struggling to get a desired job. So, of course matter of quality education arises in everybody’s mind. I am not here to blame institutions or universities but to closely observe & share the possible reasons behind this.
Universities & institutions have to be adhered with some guidelines, syllabus & curriculum and going beyond might not be possible due to student’s more involvement in internal & external assessments. During degree, students have very less time to think about extra curriculum activities as they have to devote lots of time in academic part. Casual attitude of students is also responsible of this skills gap.

Anyway, I am not here to just deliver a speech but to find out an appropriate solution for this problem. We all, including education service providers, i.e., Universities and the service receivers, i.e., the students need to understand the complexity of the problem. A student has to clear his vision and understand the tools required to achieve the target and institution has to work consistently to polish the skills of the students. Students should not rely on one source only but try to get knowledge from every valuable resource available. These sources may by any expertise guidance, any informative published material etc. In addition to this, students need to self evaluate themselves after some intervals. Present market scenario, market position & their compatibility to be part of the industry should be continuously monitored.

Job Skills are not imparted in students merely by completing a degree or any academic qualification. Job skills in a job aspirant include good communication skills, high confidence level, good interpersonal relations, politeness, team work ability, sincerity, sensibility, work ethics, social etiquettes and so on. These skills cannot be learnt by referring to books but have to be developed by sincere efforts and practicing. Set challenges for yourselves & move towards your goal persistently. Your creative & critical thinking will help a difficult problem to get solved easily.

So, do not wait for any signal and do not wait for others to start, choose your destination & move towards it persistently. Do not get divert and stop to see any hurdle or obstacle. To remove all barriers in professional life, to cover all gaps, we need to have a developed tool ready every time – Our Job Skills Set.
