Is your vision clear?
I have been interacting with degree holders for a long time and have found most of them have unclear vision about career goal and growth in their respective field. After spending three or four years of specialized academics, students have no idea of various career opportunities, skills required to begin their successful career, futuristic planning etc. All students should know that academics are not sufficient for them to be successful in professional career and need to understand the difference between student life and professional life.
In the last semester of engineering or any professional degree course, most of the students have unclear planning about their career and are seen as casual students whereas it’s time for them to get transformed into professionals. Most of the companies tend to get their manpower from colleges and interview last semester students to absorb them as trainees. But student’s casual attitude and approach makes this task complicated.
Education is not restricted to illiteracy or literacy but possessing skills and techniques to contribute in success of the employer. No employer wants to spend big time on it’s manpower’s skills building, thus prefer to get well trained or trainable work force. At the end of the degree, student’s expectations are very high in terms of salary package and facilities but even have no basic skills to be part of the industries. This is leading students towards frustration but reason behind it no one else than themselves.
For all students – “Let the academic syllabus go, but simultaneous efforts to improve your occupational skills should be made by you, don’t be dependent on college authorities only.” When students enter into last year of the degree, skills building process should be accelerated. Take guidance from experts, get counseled from people in the industry. At the end of the degree students must have a clear vision about their career and continuous efforts should be done to achieve a level which meets the employer’s requirement to be part of the industry.
