Save fuel and increase life span of your vehicle.
In today’s fast moving life, saving time is important for everyone and to save time everybody wants a transport vehicle to commute easily. We use our vehicles for various purposes like commuting to office, official work, holidays, family affairs, going to markets etc. It’s very convenient for all to use vehicle for various purposes and save time and efforts. Here I would like to mention some guidelines for all vehicle owners which would save a precious source – fuel for vehicle. We generally do not bother to think about saving fuel but there are number of benefits if we develop a habit of saving fuel. These benefits are our personal savings, increased life span of vehicle and some economic benefits for country as well.
In our country, more than seventy percent of petro products are imported from various Gulf countries, so government has to pay huge prices for transportation of petro product. Crude oil is converted into consumable vehicle fuel like gas, petrol and diesel in oil refineries which is also very costly process. If we start saving fuel, we can help county to save money and natural resources as these resources are limited in quantity. Here are some ways by which we can save fuel and increase life span of vehicle as well –
Avoid high speed – Maintain the speed of your vehicle according to the capacity of it’s engine. Driving vehicle at very high speed consumes more fuel and it also erodes the engine pistons as rotation becomes very fast in fast moving vehicle.
Do not accelerate very fast – Accelerate your vehicle with slow acceleration according to the gear. Very fast acceleration consumes more fuel. Keep the gear – speed ratio right and change the gear according to the speed and engine capacity.
Keep tyres properly inflated – Keep the air pressure in all tyres of the vehicle according to tyre size and prescribed standards. Properly inflated tyres help vehicle to run smoothly and put less load on engine. Less air in tyres make engine to take load resulting more fuel consumption.
Use AC sparingly – Air conditioner increases extra load on engine. It is recommended to use air conditioner on defrost mode and maintain the temperature. This would put less load on engine and would help save fuel and engine performance.
Service your vehicle timely – Vehicle is like our body so is required to take care as we take care of our body. Get your vehicle serviced regularly according to fuel category. A diesel vehicle requires more maintenance as compared to petrol. Choose an experienced mechanic to service your vehicle and prefer it’s servicing in your presence. Some important jobs required in service are – cleaning air filters, maintaining clutch and brake fluid levels, changing engine oil. Use genuine engine part and accessories.
Drive at constant speed – Drive your vehicle at a constant speed and do not apply brake unnecessarily.
Turn off engine for long idles – If you halt more than one minute at any place, turn off the engine. At traffic lights, while waiting for someone or for any reason, if vehicle is not in motion, prefer to turn the engine off.
Purchase a fuel economic vehicle – When you plan to buy a new vehicle, check it’s fuel efficiency as well. All automobile companies are manufacturing vehicles with good mileage.
So, these were some ways by which we can save fuel. When we start saving fuel and see long term results, we would realize how much have we saved. It’s not about money only but about vehicle performance and most important about saving country’s natural resources as well.
I save fuel by following the above guidelines and motivate others to follow these. Let us all pledge to save fuel and motivate others to save it.
