Top 10 cars sold in India in financial year 2015-16.
Indian automobile market is at boom with steep rise in number of cars sold in the market. All manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki Limited, Hyundai, Honda, Mahindra, Tata Motors and others are leaving no stone unturned in being in top ten sold number of vehicles in the market. A vehicle not being in top sold list can be a good vehicle but Indian consumers believe in a product being used by vast number of users which certifies the consumer’s satisfaction and trusted one. This financial years report is here which classifies the top ten sold vehicles in the market irrespective of small car segment, sedan or SUV category. Maruti Suzuki Limited has undoubtedly ruled in the list with six out of ten top sold vehicles in the market. Last year Maruti’s number was five in the list and with six numbers this year, company has tightened its grip in the market. There are some new entries in the list and some vehicles have been ousted from the top ten. Here are the top sold cars in Indian automobile market in FY 2015-16.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K 10 – The top sold model of last financial year has retained its position this year as well. The company sold 2,63,422 units of Alto during 2015-16 compared with 2,64,492 units in 2014-15. Company attributes the people’s preference to buy this vehicle due to company’s image of oldest manufacturer of the country. The Alto series is preferred by people due to its price, fuel efficiency and powerful engine in such cost.
Maruti Suzuki Dezire – The sedan has once again retained its 2nd position as it was last year. The 2nd largest sold vehicle in the market sold 2,34,242 units. The company had sold 2,10,649 units of the sedan in 2014-15. For this vehicle too, people preferred it due to company’s image and price, fuel efficiency reasons.
Maruti Swift – Despite drop in number of vehicle sold as compared to last FY, Swift retained the 3rd position in the market for 2nd consecutive year. The compact hatchback sold 1,95,043 units. Swift sales stood at 2,01,338 units in the previous fiscal.
Maruti Wagon R – Maruti Wagon R with 1,69,555 units sold during the last fiscal, retains the fourth position in passenger car segment. MSI had sold 1,61,250 units of the hatchback in 2014-15. Being a small segment car, company added some features like fog lamps, all power windows and some appearances related changes which attracted customers to buy one of the very old model of the company.
Hyundai Grand i 10 – Maruti’s closest rival in the market Hundai was able to sell 1,26,181 units of its Grand i 10 model and was ranked 5th position in largest sold vehicle. Grand i 10 is not very old in the market but increasingly it is becoming very popular due to attractive shape, fuel efficiency and features.
Hyundai i 20 – Hyundai i 20 was the model which despite being some expensive from closest competitors sold 1,04,841 units in the FY and stood at 6th position in the market. i 20’s powerful engine, smart features, good ground clearance are making this vehicle very popular across the country.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio – The company, which had five models in top-10 selling cars in 2014-15, saw compact model Celerio also made it to the top 10 for the first time. It stood at 7th position with sales of 87,428 units during the fiscal. It dislodged Hyundai’s compact car Eon from the seventh position.
Mahindra Bolero – Some parts of the country has tough road conditions like deserts, hills or uneven terrains and all these attributed the 8th position of Mahindra’s powerful Bolero which is suitable to run smoothly on tough road conditions. Mahindra’s SUV Bolero stood at 8th position with 81,559 units.
Maruti Omni – Omni was the second launch vehicle by Maruti after Maruti 800. Now the vehicle is not preferred as a passenger car but more as a cargo, ambulance or other commercial uses. MSI’s van Omni retained its ninth position with a sale of 79,949 units in 2015-16. It had sold 74,686 units in 2014-15.
Honda City – Honda was always known a manufacturer with petrol engine cars only. But to penetrate into Indian market, company had to change its product strategies and launched diesel model amaze and launched the diesel variant of Honda City. Honda City stood at 10th slot during the fiscal with 77,548 units.
These are the top ten sold cars in India in the FY 2015-16. All the manufacturers will be strategically striving to retain or further improve the market position and it will be like a bear and bull competition to create a psychological image among Indian consumers.
