But at times there are problems in the code, which may cause error conditions such as unexpected output, Memory leaks, Thread locks which may cause the application to slow down or even failure. Testing ensures the reliability, availability, scalability of the application and makes the most optimal and best use of the available resources.

 Testing includes testing of Java/J2EE applications during development cycle of a system.Every programmer knows they should write tests for their code. It ensures that the problems in source code are addressed as and when you are developing the project. The testing process includes developing test cases for your source code and executing it with different parameters to ensure that your source code works fine in all possible conditions. Java Testing can be categorised into “Java Code Testing & Java Unit Testing.”

“Java Code Testing” involves testing of source code with respect to industry defined coding standards and ensuring that code is stable, optimal, consistent and is compliant with coding standards whereas “Java Unit Testing” is mainly focused on testing of each smallest logical unit of your Java/J2EE application. This unit may be a module, a package, a class or a file. It is generally suggested that unit tests be conducted at very smallest unit or block of your application. That is the reason, Java Unit Testing is known as the building block of testing infrastructure. As new “units” of your application are developed, one should simultaneously also develop tests units for them. Java Unit Testing includes generating test classes for your source code and executing it with different parameters to ensuring that your source code module works fine in all possible conditions.
