If you planning to have a regular income source and start any business setup, jan Aushadhi store (generic drug store) can be a good option for you. In the current financial year, government is planning to open 3000 new stores all over the country. Through this store, there will be a regular income between Rs 10,000-15,000 and more depending upon the business generated by you. Government has linked the income with incentives which will depend upon the sale of the generic medicines. Here we know more details and some conditions required to open the store.

There are three categories executed by government to open the store –

  1. Any individual, unemployed pharmacist, doctors, registered medical practitioner can open the store.
  2. Trust, NGO, private hospital, societies & self-help groups are also eligible to open the store provided they should have minimum three years experience in social welfare.
  3. Agencies nominated by state government can also open the store.

The scheme was started in year 2008 but due to less promotion, only 184 stores have been opened so far. But in this fiscal, government is aggressively planning to open new stores in all parts of the country. Government’s motive behind opening the stores on such high level is to ensure availability of generic medicines to public on controlled prices and secondly to provide income sources for people associated with the stores. Generic medicines to these stores are supplied by public sector company, BPPI (Bureau of Pharma PSU of India). Under new guidelines, everyone will have chance to apply for Jan Aushadhi Store.

Under new guidelines, a fixed guaranteed income has been set by government for first year of the business. Government will also give an incentive of 10% of annual sale and this incentive will be 15% in the nexalite affected areas. Incentive money will be apart from margin money of the total sale.

The minimum investment required to open a store under all three categories will be 3-4 lakh initially. The agencies nominated by state government will get financial assistance up to Rs two lakh by BPPI which has to be repaid later.

Necessary documentation required – To open the store, the retail drug sale license should be on name of Jan Aushadhi Store. There should be minimum 120 square feet area owned or leased by the applicant. Income details of last three years, bank statements have also to be present at the time of application.
