Computing will be possible for all very soon under National Supercomputing Mission of C-DAC.

To cater to the IT needs of majority of non English literates, the Centre of Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) plans to invest Rs. 350 crores to develop technologies for computing in Indian languages. C-DAC sources reveal that to implement National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), internet and computer application will be brought to common Indian users by this year. Domain registration in Devnagari script and other Indian languages is going to be launched by this year to have a connectivity to the people.

Company is looking at Indian languages computing, another localizations and making sites & software available in Indian languages. The initial project cost has bet set Rs. 350 crores. Implementation of NSM is also underway and to execute this mission lots of supercomputers will be installed, applications will be used and lots of supercomputing activities are likely to take place for next few years.

The NSM project has already been approved by government and respective departments and will have estimated investment of Rs. 4500 crores. Around 70 supercomputers will be required to execute this project. 50 is these will be for educational purposes and 20 of these will be mid range and few will be of very high range supercomputers.

C-DAC is also looking to make investment in hardware design and technologies. As country has already taken enormous lead in software technology, there are a few projects that C-DAC is planning to launch in this particular year primarily for hardware technologies. To completely achieve the mission, a supporting hardware will also be required thus company is working with Bureau of Indian Standards on standardization of language keyboards.

Rightly, this move of C-DAC will enable computing for vast number of people who have less knowledge about international languages. Many countries like Russia, France, China and others have made it possible and with the final stage of this mission achieved, we will see a majority of Indians using computer application and making IT literate country.
