Shampooing your hair is a routine, but you’d be surprised that people make quite a few basic mistakes in this. Here are a few shampoo mistakes that you need to avoid –

Choosing the wrong shampoo – Most of people believe all shampoos to be suitable for their hair type. Hair types of people do not vary with each other as there are different hair types like dry, oily or greasy, curly, straight, light and dense or thick. Shampoo consists of many ingredients like detergents, PH balance, moisturizers and oils. All the ingredients are balanced according to a particular hair type and if a different shampoo is used on different hair type, it will start damaging the hair resulting rough hair, rapid hair fall and baldness.

A majority of people choose their shampoo by seeing TV advertisements. People need to know that healthy hairs are like our crown which add the most fascinating attribute in our personality but if not taken care, person will be judged as not properly groomed.

You need to use the shampoo that’s right for your hair type. Determine what kind of hair you have — dry, oily, brittle, etc., — and consult with a hair stylist or trichologist, if necessary, to figure out what works for you. Also, avoid shampoo-cum-conditioners, because although they may seem like great money-savers, it’s not possible for one product to shampoo and condition your hair at the same time. Don’t use the same shampoo every time you wash as this can lead to product build-up.

Not wetting your hair enough – Your hair needs to be super-wet before you shampoo it, otherwise the product won’t work properly and it will dry out your hair. Stand under the shower for 2-3 minutes before you shampoo it.

Not shampooing the right part of your hair – Shampoos are meant more for your roots than your ends. So when you’re in the shower, make sure you focus more on shampooing your roots and using a conditioner for your ends. Also, never start shampooing in the same part of your scalp every day as this can dry that spot out.

Washing too often – It’s not advisable to wash your hair every day as this can dry your hair out. At most, shampoo every other day. If you feel your hair is a gunky mess, use some dry shampoo to suck out all the dirt from your hair. This will also give it some additional texture.

Rinsing your hair incorrectly – Don’t rinse shampoo out of your hair too soon. If you do, then your shampoo won’t get the chance to work properly. Lather it and leave it in for a couple of minutes and then wash it out. Also, as much as you may like a hot shower, make sure you rinse out your hair with cold water as this will help seal the hair cuticle, thereby leaving your hair shiny and soft, and preventing hair loss.

Hope these suggestions will help you to maintain your hair silky, shiny and strong. Have great hairs!
